Project Description
UTERINE PROLAPSE PROJECT
Uterine prolapse occurs when the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis are stretched and weakened. As a consequence, the uterus slides through the vagina and can exceed it.
It usually affects post-menopausal women who have had multiple vaginal deliveries.
In rural African areas, it is very common due to unattended home births, having multiple children, performing hard physical tasks even in the postpartum period. When the uterus exceeds the vagina, various symptoms appears such as urine problems and urine infections. The discomfort gets worse throughout the day. Fabric rubbing against clothing can cause sores. In these cases, the treatment is surgical and restores quality of life to the patient!
In the rural hospital of Attat, a project is being carried out to detect women with this problem and look for a surgical solution. The government pays for a third of the
intervention and hospitalization. The other two thirds have to be paid by the patients, who usually do not have the resources for it.
Nowadays, 15,000€ has been allocated to this project, which means that 150 women have benefited.
Do you want to collaborate by 'sponsoring' one of these women? Its cost is 100€, but any help is fantastic!
